We are using the award winning ‘Robots in School’ system to help ensure that students who cannot attend their home schools because of illness keep in touch with their peers and keep up with their learning!
We currently use AV1 ‘No Isolation’ robots, which enable students to see and hear lessons happening in their mainstream school classroom via smartphone or tablet! After connecting in, they can use the microphone in AV1 to speak directly to peers and teachers, and can see the classroom in real-time via AV1’s camera. They can also fully participate in class and ‘raise their hand’, causing a light to flash on AV1 to ask a question!
This is a fantastic project; allowing young people to retain a presence in their classroom, and access the learning.
By maintaining closer links with students’ home schools, we hope to enable swifter and more effective reintegration.
We also use the robots to enable us to deliver lessons from our hospital classrooms into the homes of students who are neutropenic, cannot be exposed to germs, but do not want to miss out on their Community Education or Home Tuition lessons!
