Welcome to Wandsworth Hospital and Home Tuition Service (HHTS) We are here to support you with your education while you are unwell, whether this be at St George’s Hospital, Springfield Hospital or in the Wandsworth Community.
We are a UNICEF Rights Respecting School and we put your rights and your voice at the heart of our provision. Our teachers can deliver a full range of subjects from Key Stage 1 to A-Level. The curriculum is designed to allow excellent academic progress whilst supporting all young people to recover, develop a positive sense of self and build resilience for the future. We work closely with clinicians to ensure that the educational approach for you is adjusted in accordance with your medical needs. We will ask you to give us regular feedback on your learning and we will use this to change our curriculum offer or perhaps how we teach you.
There is a weekly timetable similar to your normal school timetable that covers normal national curriculum subjects with additional guided independent study time. If you would like more information on curriculum, timetables and curriculum planning can be found in the curriculum pages in the ‘Education at HHTS’ tab to your left.
At Springfield Hospital, as soon as you join the classroom you will be assigned a Lead Teacher. They will attend any meetings regarding your care and education. The Lead Teacher, with permission, will be contacting your home school to gather information regarding current programmes of study, schemes of work, prior attainment and any support strategies which have been of benefit. This collated information will form your personal learning plan and individualised timetable.
At St George’s Hospital you are welcome to join the classroom at any point in your stay. We aim to make this classroom as child centred, engaging and fun as possible however as a young person approaches their 4th day of admission or 8th session with us they will be assigned a lead teacher who will liaise with their home school. This means we will be able to ensure that, if you are here for more than a few days, you are offered tuition in the same work that your peers are studying at school. We will expect the best from you in your studies but we are also a listening community and will keep your wellbeing at the forefront of all we do.
I would like to assure you that we value and protect the confidentiality of all pupils.
I hope that you will find this section of the website particularly useful in supporting your rights, your education, your safety and wellbeing, whether you are a future, current or past student.
All our best wishes,
Tara Bell (Headteacher) and the HHTS Team
